Cementitious terrazzo is a composite material consisting of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other suitable chips, and poured with a binder that is cementitious. Historically terrazzo is then ground to a 120 grit metal diamond process and the waxed. New modern grinding and polishing processes can eliminate the need for constant waxing, instead using a refreshable enhancing sealer after a highly polished process.
Terrazzo restoration uses virtually the same process as concrete polishing, although an extra step of stripping off existing waxes or sealers is necessary.
- First we remove waxes, sealers and contamination using strippers and diamond tooling.
- Next we hone and polish using multi-step system of progressively finer diamond tooling until we achieve the desired sheen for our customer
- Finally we use an enhancing, penetrating sealer and burnish it into the floor using a high speed burnisher.
